Mosul, film diretto da Matthew Michael Carnahan, è ispirato all’articolo del New Yorker, "The Desperate Battle to Destroy ISIS" e prende il nome dalla città irachena, che nel 2014 è stata occupata dall'ISIS. Durante questi anni, l'unita di polizia SWAT della provincia di Ninive, a cui sono state sottratte case, famiglie e città, decide di scendere in campo per lottare contro l'organizzazione jihadista. Sono Kawa (Adam Bessa), un agente di 21 anni scampato a uno scontro a fuoco, e il team guidato da Jasem (Suhail Dabbach), che ha salvato la vita al giovane poliziotto. Ognuno di loro ha perso qualcuno o qualcosa di caro - allo stesso Kawa è stato ucciso lo zio - ed è proprio la voglia di vendetta e rivalsa a muoverli contro l'ISIS per liberare la loro città da crimini e violenza. Il film è un tributo a questi combattenti che si sono mossi personalmente per azzardare un ultimo tentativo dall'esito incerto, che può avere solo due vie d'uscita: la morte o la salvezza.
